In implementing the Traingrape pilot program, the operational group led by the Agricultural University of Athens visited selected vineyards participating in the pilot project. It proceeded with marking stumps for the distinction of biotypes and grape varieties affecting the wine-making capacity of the grapes from which the wine variety is produced Mavrodafni. Specifically, the working group carried out photosynthesis measurements activity of the trunks, respiration, and chlorophyll to proceed to the application of new and innovative cultivation techniques and vegetation management, which will contribute to the increase of wine production, to the upgrading of the quality of the grapes produced but will also contribute to the reduction of the environmental footprint. The Traingrape project is funded by the Rural Development Program of Greece 2014-2020 (PAA 2014-2020), Measure 16, Sub measure 16.1 – 16.2, and aims to implementation of innovative cultivation practices in the vineyards expected to increase the yield per hectare, reduce the need for the use of natural resources and increase the competitive advantages of local crops such as this of Mavrodafni.
